After taking the week to eat turkey and think about my final essay, I have dicided that I will write my argumentation on Laminated body acoustics and solid wood body acoustics. Facts about both. I will focus on why solid body guitars are better. I will begin with a breif history on acoustics and some reasons. I might end with a really general open ended statement as not to upset people. And then site my sources.
Argumentation/pros: Solid wood is more resonant than Layered wood. Solid wood last longer and can take more of a beating, Solid wood has much better acoustics and transmits sound more crisply for longer, more pronounced vibration, better appearence.
Argumentation/cons: Solid wood can warp, more affect from humidity and temp, scratches can be harder to polish, back of guitar neck can be hard on the hands, can be harder to keep clean. price. everyone needs a practice guitar

This to me seems to be more of a cause and effect essay, maybe try to go with one of them and why this is best. Just a suggesstion, but I do like your overall idea, and like reading your essays.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a good argument. Maybe your thesis could just be pointed to one subject which you like better (laminant or solid wood) and make point a couple points why it is better.

ReplyDeleteI am excited to read this essay, not that this is related but things are made so cheap now days. Furniture is made out of fake wood, theres not even real wood floors anymore. I am sure that guitars made out of solid wood would be the best too. Sounds like your all set!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting thesis statement to me. Of course solid body is better. Ide be interested to hear facts to back it. I would also argue that when plugged in, with the right pickups and amplifier, you can make a laminate sound just as good when recording.
